How is everyone? Like, really? Things have seemed pretty upside down here in New Jersey as we grapple with this new reality. I am not going to lie to you, some days it feels SO HARD to help the kids with school and stay on top of everything I want to do with A Happy Stitch. I keep hearing from so many of you that creating espadrilles has been the perfect quarantine project and it makes me feel amazing! You all are keeping me going. I love knowing that creating espadrilles has been keeping you creatively charged while everything else is on slow down.
Because of that, I’ve decided to release the new fabrics for 2020. Springtime is the perfect time for espadrilles-making and this time, when we are all at home, is perfect for a project like this! It’s feels sort of strange to just keep “trucking along” but it also feels important. I’m really excited about the fabrics in this mix of spring 2020 espadrilles and can’t wait to share them with you!
This stunning fabric from Rifle Paper Company is sure to be a classic floral. You can create different looks on each shoe with pattern placement or make them match. Either way it’s a flower garden on your feet! I can just picture this with the perfect striped dress, can’t you?
This chambray polka dot fabric almost landed in the trash! Can you believe it? This has been a dream of mine since I started The Espadrille Kits and it’s finally coming true. I scored this fabric at a trip to the Fab Scrap store in Manhattan a while ago. It’s thick enough to make solid shoes (with interfacing) and oh-so-cute! The fabric is pre-consumer waste meaning that Fab Scrap grabbed it before a fashion house tossed it into the landfill. I nabbed ten yards of this fabric and was thrilled to be able to use it in the kits. People, I lugged this fabric around Manhattan in a huge bag and then on the train home. The whole time I felt like a winner! Even as I bumped into everyone with my massive tote o’ fabric.
I’m always trying to be as eco-friendly as possible so this really marks a moment where I inch closer to living my values. This feels especially potent in this moment.
+ CHEETAH!
Animal print is THE BEST neutral of all the neutrals and these espadrilles are sure to be a hit. I can tell you, they are incredibly wearable. I wear mine all the time because they add the perfect bit of extra to an outfit. Dare I say va-va-voom?! 🙂
You know I love my florals. I couldn’t resist this sweet all-over blue meadow print from Rifle Paper Co. This is another one perfect for that beach vacation that will be twice as sweet when we can finally relax poolside.
I hope you enjoy these new prints as much as I’ve enjoyed playing with them! In a few weeks (I hope!), I will be releasing a video. I started filming before the virus really took hold so progress has been slow as we adjust to the new kid-filled days. But soon!
