One of my favorite things is the way that people play with different fabrics and designs for their espadrilles. It is so inspiring and I don’t get to do it myself nearly enough! So, I was really excited when Spoonflower asked me to play with their Performance Velvet fabric for a pair of velvet espadrilles! I mean, our feet deserve some sweet scrumptious velvety luxury; especially after all we have traversed this past year and a half.

This fabric is also discounted 15% with free shipping right now. The discount will apply automatically until July 2nd, no code needed. This makes it super easy to grab an I Got It kit at the same time for your own pair of velvet espadrilles.

To make this pair of shoes, I used two prints from Nelvis Valenzuela (provided to me from Spoonflower).
In velvet for the exterior, I used her pom pom gray print and a matching starburst print in organic cotton sateen for the lining fabric. The Performance Velvet is a 100% polyester product and normally I avoid working with polyester so I started out a bit skeptical. It’s very soft, though, and while it says it is a knit fabric, it doesn’t have any stretch so it worked great to create these espadrilles. Honestly, they are more like house slippers they are so comfortable. Color really shows up well on this fabric and even though it has some pile, the color is very saturated. That’s probably one of the benefits of a polyester fiber, I would guess?

I am eager to try out this fabric for mule-style velvet espadrilles, as well. Then I will truly realize my dream of the house slipper and live out the rest of my life like a Golden Girl!

By the way, thanks for all the love about my Spoonflower Small Business grant. I’ve been working away and thinking about moving it forward and am so excited share more soon!
P.S. Fabric and compensation was provided to me from Spoonflower for creating the espadrilles. My opinion and this post were entirely my own. It’s an honor to work with companies that I respect.
