I am so excited to share that there are now WEDGE espadrille kits in the shop! Cue the cheers! Wedge shoes are not only adorable but also the rebels of the ‘fancy’ shoe category. Where else can you get the lift of a heel but with stability? (Just ask the illustrious Meghan Markle who wore them in Fiji.) It makes them even more badass when they are handmade! Don’t you think? Of course. Everything is more badass when it’s handmade.
And guess what?! They come in women sizes 5 to 10! I’m really thrilled to finally have the wedge espadrille kits in size 10 for all of my well-grounded friends!
The release of these wedge kits was a bit slower than I wanted it to be because I was deciding on providing options for the ankle attachment. The manufacturer instructions include an ankle buckle with faux leather and while I liked the look of the buckle (but not the faux leather part!), I worried it wouldn’t be very durable over time and was overly complicated. I ended up including two alternatives for the ankle….a tie AND an elastic ankle. I really like how the tie looks, it’s a very classic look but the on-and-off ease of an elastic strap makes the shoes more versatile. Of course, once I had created the instruction booklet I had to send it off to the printer and the timing just got backlogged. But, life happens and I’m thrilled to have them out now.
I put a lot of work into making the espadrilles kits an accessible project that is truly wearable but also look so good it seems like a more advanced project. See. Badass!
Of course, Kimberly over at Straight Stitch Designs made a FABULOUS pair with an ankle buckle so if you are a buckle love, definitely check out her tutorial for amazing tips on how she did it.
There is so much fun potential with the wedges…I can imagine embroidery and tassels and even long leather straps for the ankle ties. They don’t require that much fabric so the Wedge I GOT IT kit is a good bet for anyone with a fat quarter of precious fabric on hand, or those dreams of embroidery. I can imagine doing something like what Melissa from Melly Sews did with her espadrilles kit using lush ribbon and an embroidery design.
The Wedge STARTER KITS come with a choice of classic black and Cotton + Steel fabrics, including Jen Hewett and Rifle Paper Co. styles, so you can go floral or modern. As always, please message me with any special requests. I’m happy to accommodate!
I know many of you, my lovely blog readers, are in the U.S. where the weather is either totally weird or getting cold. And, while it might not be the perfect weather to wear espadrilles but I’d argue it is amazing weather to MAKE them! What’s better than a little handmade stitching while dreaming about vacation, right?! Imagine a handmade vacation from head toe!
Espadrille kits make a fabulous gift for the crafters in your life! Or give a kit to a group of girlfriends and set up a crafting night in the new year. (And invite me, please!)

I don’t! It’s agreat idea but I haven’t made a video yet. You can search you tube for a Dritz Sewing video for the flats and much of it still applicable to the wedge shoes! Hope that is helpful!
