Artist Series : Punch Needle Slippers Kit by Arounna of Bookhou

November 21, 2019 By Melissa Q. Leave a Comment

It is my great honor to showcase the latest edition of the THE ARTIST SERIES. For the next month, I’ll be selling an extra special kit…Punch Needle Slippers designed and created by Arounna Khounnaraj of the illustrious Bookhou!

Arounna and her husband create some of the most fabulous, minimalist designs that I’ve ever come across. (Funny story, one of the reasons I became friends with Sonya Philips was because I crossed the room to admire her Bookhou bag! Handmade brings us all closer together.)

Arounna’s recent foray into Punch Needle artistry has brought with it her same high impact design paired with stunning beauty.  I was floored and awed when she agreed to create slippers for my Artist Series and the results speak for themselves. Look at these incredible slippers! For more of her amazing punch needle goodness, be sure to check out her stunning book.

Arounna’s exquisite style is somehow low-key and full of color at the same time. I’m am absolutely in love with these slippers. According to Arounna, they don’t take too long to create. You guys, punch needling just looks so incredible. Punch Needle Slippers Kit by Arounna Khounnoraj of BOOKHOU - The Espadrilles Kit from A HAPPY STITCH

She also shared some images of her process on the Bookhou Instagram account.  This stunning set up is so inviting. I’m dying to learn how to punch needle and this serene scene along with these incredible slippers is positively, lusciously inspiring.

The kit comes with Arounna’s exclusive design and her PDF instructions as well as the shoe-making basics. It doesn’t include punch needle supplies but she does include a list of what you need. These will only be on sale until December 21st! So, don’t miss it.

I’ll be shipping them out as soon as I can. For those of you following my personal drama, you know that the latest shipment of shoe soles has been delayed over and over again. They are set to arrive today and I have no reason to think they won’t make it.  I just couldn’t wait to release this kit any longer.  As a result, it might be that I can’t start shipping until tomorrow or Saturday. Thanks for being patient!

Grab a kit and then pick up some punch needle supplies…this is the perfect holiday season craft.  Speaking of, be sure to add this kit to your holiday list.  It’s the extra special you or someone you love deserves.  Perhaps along with the kit and punch needle supplies, you could throw in her Creativebug class! Match made in heaven!

Arounna Khounnaraj – Arounna is a Canadian artist and maker working in Toronto where she immigrated with her family from Laos at the age of four. While her education includes a master’s degree in fine arts in sculpture and ceramics, it was through subsequent residencies that she found her current focus in fibre arts. In 2002 she started Bookhou, a multi-disciplinary studio with her husband John Booth, where Arounna explores screen printing and a variety of textile techniques such as embroidery and punch needle. She creates objects such as bags, home goods and textile art.

In addition, Arounna’s passion for creating and belief in the importance of the handmade has allowed her to become one of Canada’s most sought-after mentors and educators working with colleges, workshops and social media projects.

Currently, Arounna’s work using the punch needle has created a social media sensation. From wall art to cushions and bags, her punch needle pieces highlight her botanical and abstract designs and her sense of colour have brought a modern, new life to an old technique.
