This Bronte top was the fourth and final clothing item I made using the most recent Perfect Pattern Parcel but it was the item I was immediately excited about when I saw the patterns. Way back when my kids were really little I marveled at the onesies they wore with the cute overlapping shoulders and I wished they made them for grown-ups. So, when I saw the Bronte top I realized the day had come! My sleep-deprived design vision was now a possibility.
The interesting thing about the design of this top is that Jennifer Lauren manages to turn what could be a very childish style into a retro-sophisticated style. She was a new-to-me designer and a great discovery because it clear in looking at her patterns that making retro wearable is kind of her “thing”. Isn’t that overlap just an adorable look? I can’t wait to make more of these tops.
When I do, I will probably make them one size bigger. This version is just a little too tight for my style. Don’t you think? I gotta mom-ify* this shirt I think.
The pattern itself is simple to understand and construct, I didn’t run into any problems. I would consider it manageable for anyone familiar with how to sew with knit fabrics and accustomed to sewing with a twin needle. The fabric is a 4-way stretch knit from Riley Blake. I was worried it would be too juvenile of a print but like how it worked out. I think I got it from Hawthorne Threads.
Have you bought the Perfect Pattern Parcel this time around? Tempted to dip your toe into sewing yourself some pretty clothes? The sale ends on October 31st, this friday!

Disclosure: I was given this parcel of patterns to sew with and blog about. My opinions about the patterns are all my own and my honest truthful review.
Super Cute! Love how it came out!
Aw, thanks so much!
You look great! Well done.
Thank you Mel!
I love this print for the Bronte top, and for the record, I think you look smashing in it. But I know what you mean about mom-ifying it. I will need to do that when I make mine. I can’t be standing up straight with my tummy sucked in all day long. 😉
Exactly! The mom test is whether or not it looks good as soon as I exhale!
So great. Love the onesie inspiration, but def works for a hip mom too.
Thank you. yes, a bleary-eyed new mother had a fashion idea that came true. It can happen to you!
Well, I think you look amazing in it! so maybe not a bigger size 😉
Aw, thanks lady. You are too kind!
