Yesterday I shared with you this sweet, sweet baby doll and today I’m sharing two cupcakes tops! Both of them are from the Sew Fab Pattern Sale (affiliate link), devised and run by my wonderful friend Jenny. The Cupcake Top is one of the twenty patterns in the sale and I am so thrilled to have had the chance to stitch some up!
Ah!! How adorable is this guy in his new top? Let me answer that. So adorable!!
My kids live in knit clothing…they are basically why I (thankfully) forced myself to learn how to sew with knits. And, this top is making the whole thing worth it. Look at the cuteness!! Of course, J can pull some seriously cheesy ‘photo’ faces. Ahem.
I loved this shirt so much that I had to make two. This blue one was my first attempt at a color-block style. I knew he would love the different sleeves in different colors idea and I was right. He was crazy about it. Perhaps, all along I’ve been missing the mark and I need to make more exciting tops for C and J to keep them interested in mama-made items? Something to think about.
He also loves the pocket.
Super loves the pocket.
The pattern is from Sewing Mama RaeAnna and it is unisex. There are instructions for how to add girly-girl ruffles if that is your thing. I made a size 5T and it fit pretty well, possibly a little baggy but he likes roomy shirts so it works. Plus, roomy is better than too tight. The shirt is so beautifully simple. The pattern pieces for the back and front of the shirt are nearly the same and the arms slope the same front and back. As a result, putting the shirt together doesn’t get fiddly. For the blue shirt I used an old jersey knit crib sheet for the deep blue and a bit of teal from my stash for the contrast.
This cutie is made with grey knit from my stash and I had just enough scrap (after making this playtime dress) to make the pocket and cuffs with leftover Bike it fabric from Birch Fabrics, I got it here. I just love this fabric and it works so well for girls and boys!
Like I said, this is just one of the many, many patterns in the Sew Fab Pattern sale (affiliate link), otherwise known as the mother load of pdf bundle sales. The sale ends in four days and it won’t happen again. It’s a pretty great deal, it essentially comes out to little over a $1 per pattern! I was so excited to be asked to sew up some of these beautiful creations but they all look amazing and purchasing a bundle like this is a great way to build up a collection of patterns.
Here’s a little more official information about the sale:
