Five Ways To Style Your Espadrilles with Alexis Bailey

July 21, 2020 By Melissa Q. Leave a Comment

I am so excited because today Alexis Bailey is taking over my blog with an amazing guest post. She’s showing off five ways to style espadrilles.  And, well, as you will see. She is showing us how to do it in style!

I’m sure you have already seen Alexis and her amazing handmade clothes all over Instagram. If you don’t know Alexis, though, you can thank me right now because you are going to be so happy to discover her. Her handmade clothes knock it out the park and her photos are straight out of a magazine. She has even started a new, exciting venture called Thimble and Snip that celebrates hand-sewing. Watch for her kits coming out soon.

She’s basically an unstoppable beauty. She’s also beautiful inside and I’m lucky to call her a friend.  Enough preamble, here is the inimitable Alexis.  Now, we can collectively ooh and awe over her decidedly cool espadrilles styling and her distinctive handmade clothing vibe.

Alexis Bailey for The Espadrilles Kit

Hey there readers! So excited to have the opportunity to take over the A Happy Stitch Blog and share some Espadrilles inspo with you! I made two types of Espadrilles, the casual shoe version and the strappy sandals version that can be found using the pattern found HERE

The sandals version was an AMAZING collab between A Happy Stitch and the wonderful Nikki + Mallory brand, beautifully executed.

I created my casual shoes using Melissa’s I GOT IT kit with of a linen canvas blend from Spoonflower using fabric by Katie Kortman (for my size I only used one fat quarter but you may want to get two just in case).

The casual pair of Espadrilles were the first espadrilles I’d ever made and I LOVE them so much I decided to make a second pair (the sandals)! For my sandals I used two types of leather found HERE and some leather cording for the straps HERE. There are also some awesome suggestions in the sandals pattern itself for where to source leather.

Today I’m sharing 5 outfits that are perfect to rock with your Espies and can be worn in various seasons. I hope all 5 give you some sewing and shoemaking inspiration and lead you down the wonderful path of making some espadrilles yourself!

First up is a casual look I created with a button up shirt and some boyfriend Jeans. I rolled up the jeans just a little for a laid back look and unbuttoned just the top button of the shirt. The Espadrilles give off an amazing contrast and with the casual flare, they add an easy vibe that gives off comfort and relaxation

This next look is worn with my espadrilles sandals which can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories paired with it. I chose an easy gathered button down dress and my silk turban for an urban fun get up. With the fabric being a viscose noil, this is one of my new favorite summer outfits, easy breezy and fun.

This look is one of my favorites and is so easy to wear. After all you can never go wrong with a jumpsuit!  I paired my cream jumpsuit with my Espadrilles sandals and let the outfit do the work. The dark of the sandals plays on the light of the jumpsuit giving off an easy contrast and as the jumpsuit stops at the ankles it shows off those fun straps as well!

This look is a fun summer wear as well. I paired my canvas Espadrilles with a floral skirt and a camisole. The red of the shoes plays on the red of the florals in the skirt and makes the whole look pop. I love this look for a date night or an easy day running errands

This last look is a fun and chill vibe all on its own. I paired a wrap top with some loose fitting silk noil pants with my espadrilles and let the brown of the sandals play on the natural color of the top. I tied it together with a headwrap to give an easy vibe and feel to the look.

I hope these looks inspired you to make your own espadrilles! After all what could be more cool than making your own shoes and being able to customize them to your own wardrobe. Be sure to check out the A Happy Stitch Espadrilles Kits to create your own pair of awesome shoes and rock your closet!
