First of, I’d like to say, I do not consider myself the type to blast a quarantine-white torso onto the internet in a bra. But, you guys, THIS BRA. I absolutely had to share. It’s the Barrett Bralette pattern from Madalynne. I made it using one of Madalynne’s DIY kits that I bought while attending one of her workshops last year. I fell in love with the gold and pink elastic!
Looks like her shop is sold out of this style but she has lots of other fun options! Madalyne’s DIY bra kits are similar to my Espadrilles kits in that you get all these fiddly little, hard-to-find pieces in one easy place.

The bralette is far less complicated to make than I expected it to be. Like I mentioned, I did attend a (totally indulgent and delightful) bra-making class with Madalynne so I knew the basics of bra-making. Even so, I rank bralette making as only barely an intermediate project. It takes some careful sewing to get the elastic right but that’s about it! The result is a BRA so I think that’s worth it.
I did make one alteration. There are some particulars about my anatomy that leave me looking very ‘inappropriate’ if I don’t have a bit of padding. No, I’m not talking about being small breasted. I’m perfectly fine with that, thank you very much.
This anatomy issue required that I insert a bit of foam interfacing in between the lining and the outer lace (I used a product called SUPPORT from Fairfield). It worked perfectly and absolutely does the job.

The final result is a super comfortable, super cute bralette that is immensely wearable. I always thought I needed underwire and I’m positively thrilled to be able to ditch it for this marvelous bralette. It has the right amount of support without the restrictive feeling that I get when wearing most upper bodice-related undergarments.
For some people, a bralette isn’t enough support but it’s just right for me. 🙂 It’s extra fabulous that it’s so pretty and feminine.

This cheeky label (purchased from Stitch Sew Shop) seemed just a necessity for this particular handmade item.
I mean, I make my own shoes and now my own bra so I get to sprinkle a little flattery on myself.
