it’s that time again, time for another kids clothes week challenge on elsie marley. I just signed up, are you in? the challenge is to spend an hour a day for a week working on making handmade kids clothes. I’ve done this a few times and personally I count everything from tracing patterns to picking fabric to actual sewing in my ‘hour a day’. that is the challenge, the fun part is sharing the madness with the activity on her blog or on flickr and making something awesome as a result.
is it hard to find the time? sure it is. but it’s worth it! one year I made one little coat ….I just took my time and made an awesome little coat for J. this year I’ve got grander plans: two bucket hats and two fall-time hoodies and two halloween costumes (they want to be a ghost and a dragon!).
you can sign up on her blog but let me know if you do by leaving a comment here, especially if you are a local friend, we can cheer each other on. go us!
Cecilia wants to be a ghost for halloween too!
Fantastic! They spook everyone out together!
Melissa: What are some of your favorite resources for boys’ clothing patterns/tutorials?
Ooh, good question. I am definitely a sewing book person more than a pattern person. I’m really liking the book “Sewing for Boys” right now by Figueroa of Patterns by Figgy. That is definitely a good one. I love the little boy shirt in the Weekend Sewing book for a dressed up look. The book ‘Growing Up Sew Liberated” is very sweet and has great ideas for sewing little people clothes in knit fabrics. But, keep a watch on elsie marley’s blog as well, she often leads up the kcwc with great, inspiring posts and tutorials. She has a boy so she understands.
