memory quilts

when my children were really little I never believed it when people said “it goes by so fast”.  everyday seemed so full of new challenges and experiences that it seemed like the baby days would stretch on and on.  but, the secret truth is that everybody was right.  it goes fast. really fast.  sometimes, left in the wake of all that fast-paced growing were baby clothes and blankets that were just too dear to donate or give away.  because embedded in all that clothing is the memory of precious baby days.

truth is, clothes just hold memories.  memories that are just different, more personal.  perhaps, even the memories of a whole lifetime from someone special that has passed out of your life.

I can stitch those cloth memories into a quilt.  I pay special attention to both big and little details such as pockets, patches, embroidery stitches, silky fabric, ribbons, and images.  then, I quilt them all together into one blanket.  I’ve incorporated socks, sewn on special buttons, even added in the tassle from the top of a hooded jacket. each one is truly unique and truly yours.
