Hello friends. I’m not exactly sure how it happened but it has been nearly a month since an update. It was completely unintentional but it turned out to be a ridiculously busy time; I had a birthday (41!) and my sister got married. In fact, I was the officiant at my sister’s wedding. It was a beautiful honor to marry my sister to her incredible husband but I was really nervous. I did manage to get through the whole ceremony without too many tears. Score! Nobody wants a blubbering officiant. I wish my recent sewing had been as successful as my words, but no luck. Instead, I present to you this accidental skirt.
It was supposed to be a dress and now it’s just a simple skirt and a mess of a tank top on the studio floor. I was attempting a second hack of the Sanibel dress based on my Liberty of London romper. The idea was to adapt the top of my fancy pants romper by removing the button-up portion and attaching it to a skirt instead of shorts for a simple tank dress with an elastic waist. The problem is that I added too much length to the dress top but it was lined on the inside and the combination of too much fabric and extra length made for a crazy, blous-y ill-fitting mess. Basically, I hacked the hack so much and try to correct my mistake with even more hacking until I was in the deep weeds of the sewing jungle. And by that I mean, sitting in the middle of a mess of fabric with my seam ripper.
But hey! You gotta make lemonade, right? So, I added a simple chambray waistband to the top of the skirt portion and made a simple elastic waist skirt.
Not much too it, really. I just couldn’t bear to waste this lovely ikat fabric. The skirt is a pretty short but wearable. It has pockets, though, and pockets are good. Not too bad for an accident, right?
By the way, I’m still on track for a few more items on my handmade summer wardrobe but the (somewhat) cooler weather has me thinking about what I might put on my fall sewing list. Watch for the last few items on my summer list, coming soon!

Great skirt especially from from something that’s gone wrong, I have a dress in the naughty corner so maybe I should give it the same treatment.
