Oh, these two cuties. I can hardly wipe the smile off my face looking at these pictures. Scrumptious boys. Their perfect faces are courtesy the fresh, clean air of the Pacific Northwest where we were for a wedding-related vacation a month ago. The dressy-casual outfits were wedding attire of the mama-made variety…they both wore a pair of Twisted Trousers and Maxwell Shirts.
This was truly our kind of wedding. It was in the middle of the woods at a summer camp outside of Portland, OR and festivities lasted all weekend. We stayed in cabins and made new friends with our bunkmates. The boys played soccer all day while we caught up with old friends we hadn’t seen in years, drank (craft) beer and helped get things ready for the wedding. There was a talent show (we did a family quiz for the crowd) and when the ring bearer couldn’t find his shoes, we lent him a pair of our water shoes. The water shoes were worn throughout the whole ceremony. It was a hippy wedding of the modern Portland-area variety and it was wonderful.
A wedding perfect for my casual guys but I will wanted to dress them up a little bit. The pants, Twisted Trousers from Titchy Threads were the first and only thing that came to mind. I love them so! These pants have a jersey waistband so they are comfortable but I dressed them up with striped lightweight demin with railroad stripes from Robert Kaufman. So perfect for the occasion. These pants are so adaptable (and totally gender-neutral! Yay!), I have made multiple pairs for the boys. Some out of sweatshirt material that are perfect for everyday wear and these, which are good for a wedding! My pictures don’t do them justice because the side seams twist around for a twisted look. You can’t really see it here but it’s a cool look paired with their slender fit. What you can see is how perfectly adorable they look on. I was lucky enough to pattern test them for Laura at Titchy Threads so I have great insight into how meticulous Laura is about her patten making! These things go through an iron clad testing process. Trust me, Laura kept pursuing perfection when I would have said, “Ah, it’s good enough!” Nope. Not for Laura.
As for the Maxwell shirts, they are a Shwin Designs pattern. I made one in a suiting fabric from my stash and the other from Doe fabric I bought at Rock Paper Scissors. I love both of these tops and so do the boys. They stayed light and breezy and comfortable. Maxwells are easy to make as well but turn out beautifully. Not always an easy feat with a collared top. This fox shirt I made earlier is still getting worn regularly.
The fit for both was just right for their age, no adjustments necessary.
Their outfits were comfortable enough that both boys didn’t complain after the wedding and kept them on. And when the music started playing in the barnhouse next to a wide open field, signaling that the reception was getting started, they scrambled off to explore and play even more soccer. Pretty impressive for fancy outfits, I’d say.

The boys look adorable in their “wedding clothes”! But, so awesome that those clothes are also fantastic for active boys as well! I love the twisted trousers too! Of course I’ve only made them in shorts so far…but 😉 they look great in an understated, yet totally hip way in one “solid” fabric! ps…sounds like a fabulous time 🙂
